Preparing your Preschooler for Fall

Posted on 06-28-2017

If your child is entering preschool for the very first time this fall, you may want to begin slowly altering their daily routine. From getting ready to go each morning to learning what to expect each day at preschool, your little one thrives off of a regular schedule and will be much more confident heading into their first day if they feel adequately prepared. Here's how to establish a new routine with your preschooler:

Wake up right

Practice your new morning routine in the weeks leading up to their first day of preschool. Your child can expect to wake up at the same time every day, get dressed, have a nutritious, substantial breakfast, and hit the road in time to make it to school. If your child enjoys listening to music in the morning, crank up the tunes!

Discuss the day

Discuss your child's preschool schedule to the best of your ability. They may spend a few hours in the morning learning about music, art, and reading, and then have a yummy lunch with their new friends. Nap time may come next, or maybe fitness activities outdoors. Your child will feel excited having a general idea of what to expect each day at their preschool.

Wind down

Your child's after school routine is just as important as their morning routine. After school snacks, reading time, and packing up their backpack for the next day are all wonderful tasks to begin implementing into their daily schedule as the new school year approaches.

It's completely normal for your little one to be displaying beginner's nerves about their new school. Change can be scary, especially for a four year old. The best thing you can do to help your preschooler prepare is to help them establish their brand new routine, and continue to be encouraging!
